Still, a bit of simple care goes a long way. Here is everything you need to know about keeping your panels looking brand new for years.
Why Panels Are So Easy to Maintain
PVC wall panels are completely waterproof. Water sits on the surface instead of soaking in. As a result, mould has nowhere to grow and nothing to feed on.
There are also no joins for dirt to collect in. Our tongue and groove system creates a seamless finish across the whole wall. Therefore, cleaning is simply a matter of wiping a flat surface.
Everyday Cleaning
For general upkeep, warm water and a soft cloth is all you need. Wipe the panels down once a week and they will stay looking fresh.
If you want to go a step further, add a small amount of mild dish soap to the water. Then wipe the panels over and dry them with a clean microfiber cloth. Drying prevents water spots, especially on darker finishes like Graphite Storm and Industrial Slate.
Removing Soap Scum and Bathroom Build Up
Bathrooms collect soap residue over time. Shower walls get the worst of it.
For light build up, use a mix of warm water and white vinegar. Spray it on, leave it for five minutes, then wipe it off. Finally, rinse with clean water and dry the surface.
For heavier build up, a non abrasive bathroom spray works well. In addition, a soft sponge will help lift residue without marking the panel.
What To Aviod
This part matters most. A few products can damage the panel surface permanently.
Never use these on your panels:
- Abrasive scourers or steel wool
- Scouring powders and cream cleansers
- Bleach in undiluted form
- Acetone, thinners or solvent based cleaners
- Stiff bristle brushes
These will scratch the finish and dull the shine. Above all, remember that panels do not need aggressive cleaning. The surface is designed to release dirt easily.
Cleaning Kitchen and Splashback Panels
Kitchen areas deal with grease rather than soap. Consequently, a degreasing spray is your best option.
Spray it on, let it sit briefly, then wipe with a soft cloth. Similarly, warm soapy water handles most day to day splashes behind a cooktop.
Looking After Outdoor and Alfresco Panels
Panels used in pergolas and alfresco areas collect dust and pollen. Therefore, an occasional hose down is usually enough.
For a deeper clean, use warm soapy water and a soft broom. Avoid pressure washers though. High pressure water can force moisture behind the panel edges.
Dealing With Marks and Scuffs
Scuff marks happen in busy areas like hallways and laundries. Fortunately, most lift off easily.
Try a damp cloth with a little mild soap first. If the mark stays, a melamine foam eraser used gently will usually remove it. Test it in a hidden spot before you go over a visible area.
Long Term Care Tips
Ventilate bathrooms well after showers to reduce moisture in the air. Check silicone seals around edges and corners once a year. Reseal them if you notice any gaps or lifting.
Meanwhile, keep sharp objects away from panel faces during renovations or furniture moves. The panels are tough, but a deep gouge cannot be buffed out.
